What makes Beth Marie’s so amazing? Believe it or not, their ice cream is made using an ice cream machine that was built in 1927. This machine can literally make ten gallons of top quality ice cream in only eighteen minutes. Thats right folks, we said eighteen minutes! It only contains 14% butterfat and the store works endlessly to create new flavors that are sure to impress the taste buds of consumers everywhere. It goes into the freezers immediately after it’s made and is ready to serve after 48 hours.
Each of their 3 locations has between 48 and 64 flavors to select from at any given time. They often change their flavors and will even have special promotions that will change with the seasons. Beth Marie’s sells their ice cream in retail stores and restaurants as well.
The original location was opened in 1998 on the South side of Denton’s Historic Square that was built in 1976. This is the type of ambiance their founders Beth Marie and Dr. Randy Cox wanted to capture. The looked to revitalize the square with this old fashioned ice cream and soda fountain shop and that they did. In 2003, Beth Marie and Dr. Cox decided to pursue other interest so they sold the business when a new partnership was formed. They expanded to their second location in Unicorn Lake in 2009, and their most recent store in 2017 at Old Downtown Carrollton Square.

Arts & Auto Extravaganza and ChalkFest
When you think of Denton, TX, one thing comes to mind, nostalgia. That’s right, Denton is well known for its nostalgic vibe especially at the downtown square. No event is more indicative of nostalgia than the one put on by the Denton Main Street Association, the Arts & Auto Extravaganza and ChalkFest. Each year hot rods, classic cars, souped up trucks and motorcycles roll into town and find their spots at the Denton square. You’ll see the car owners spit shining their rides, and polishing up every piece of chrome they can find in order to make their cars standout. Meanwhile, the sidewalks are decorated with chalk for the chalk fest and local musicians even play on the steps of the courthouse for entertainment the whole day through.
Auto enthusiast come from Oklahoma, Texas and other states to gather on the square where 250+ cars are on display for the 75 categories that are judged. They have awards for everything from the Best Gas Guzzler to the Best in Show. The showcasing of automobiles in the Denton square offers plenty of things to see and do for everyone in all age groups. From the pre ’30s cars, to the ’60s era trucks, to the modified ’82 Corvettes. The judges and gearheads will scan every car and every engine and motorcycle on the square in order to make the best decision on which ride will take the prize. You can bet that every car and every bike owner will have a good story to tell about their car. Whether it’s how they obtained a certain car or bike part that was extremely rare, to the history of who owned the car previously and what work they did to it.
